I Left My Heart in Boracay

I’m supposed to be writing about my Boracay trip. I’m supposed to be writing articles for Ms. Renault. But for some reason, I’ve been struggling just to string 2 words together since I got back from Boracay.

A vacation was supposed to get me re-energized, ready to live life again. But since I’ve been back, I’ve been in a worse slump than ever before. Its like I left my heart and my soul back in the island.

I’ve always wanted to leave the city and live more simply by the sea. All my life I’ve never really wanted to get rich or to be incredibly successful. I just want simplicity, and I caught a glimpse of that in Boracay. I saw it in the locals and the expats who’ve made the island their home. Most of them are far from rich, but they’re happy. I saw more smiles in 4 days in Boracay than an entire lifetime in the city.

I want to pack up my bags and go. I am a single, 25-year-old girl with virtually no responsibilities. I can just do it, right? My mum’s situation is okay now, my sister is all grown up. I don’t have a boyfriend. Nothing is keeping me here, except a job that I hate and friends who I know I will never lose, wherever I am.

Is it selfishness to want this so bad?

  1. no! it’s not selfish! you should go wherever as long as you’re happy. that’s what life is about right? happiness.

  2. no it’s not selfishness, it’s the innate human need to be secure. i say do it, but do it not just with the heart but with sensibility as well. what will you do in boracay for a living? it’s that simple;money. sunsets are beautiful my dear but they don’t fill the stomach…BUT, you know, in the end, if you really want it so badly, then i say “GO FOR IT and MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU.” and, uhm, where are the photos? i’ve posted mine already in my other blog…where are yours?

  3. i don’t think it’s selfishness either.. happiness is a choice. you can always choose to pack up your things and live in boracay, if that will make you happy. :) but as what was previously commented, you also have to be sensible about it. life in boracay may seem simple enough, but thriving is another story. i feel for you girl.. boracay casts spells to its visitors. once you’re there, you find yourself wanting to stay forever…..

  4. it’s not selfishness, but more of you thinking about your future. don’t worry, anyone reaching 25 who’s been to the been there, done that teen-to-yuppie-phase of partying and “crazy” living always opt for a more organized and mature way of living, it’s a start. :) but before jumping into something that your heart desires at the moment, think hard and weigh everything. boracay is a paradise, we all know that, but just like any other place, there’s more to it than meets the eye.

  5. absolutely not! for you to know what you want at 25 means you’re wiser than your years. if and when you do decide to pack your bags, leave the city’s buzz for the calmness by the sea, make sure you bring with you a cellphone or a notebook/pc so that at least, you’re not totally lost to us. :)
